My 2021 Travel Wishlist

New Year - new destinations to discover! 

While the COVID-19 pandemic caused massive amounts of cancellations and postponements, I’m ready to hit the road (safely) and get back out exploring. Some of these destinations are ones that were put on hold from last year, and others are ones I’ve been day-dreaming about since quarantine.

Paris, France

I haven’t been to Paris since summer 2014, and had plans to return last September that were inevitably postponed. The first time I was there was as a student, and while it was a wonderful experience it wasn’t how I envisioned it. I was, and still am, very much looking forward to going back with my best friend/travel buddy to explore this fascinating city and eat copious amounts of fresh baguettes and wander through the Saint-Ouen Flea Market.

Lithuania

This Baltic destination was also on the list for last September. After a few days in Paris, we were going on a road trip around the country starting and ending in Vilnius with visits to Kaunas, Klaipeda and Siauliai. I was really looking forward to going somewhere new and discovering all about this country and their culture.

New Orleans, LA, USA

I have always been drawn to the Big Easy. Back in high school I had gone there for a National Youth Gathering with my church youth group, and (of course) did not experience the city how it is truly meant to be experienced (read: late nights on Bourbon Street, ghost tours, kayaking the bayou - etc). I had to cancel both my June and October (Halloween) trips here and am very, very much looking forward to hopefully spending Halloween 2021 here.

Idaho, USA

For the past four years - give or take - I’ve had this inexplicable desire to go to Idaho. I want to go backpacking and soak in natural hot springs and look up at a star filled sky while lounging in a natural hot spring. Sounds amazing, right?!

Vermont, USA

One word: LEAVES. I have always wanted to see the autumn leaves in Vermont. It just looks so picturesque and lovely with all of the hills covered in a kaleidoscope of beautiful, warm colors. I think it’d be an amazing part of a New England road trip.

Montréal, QC, Canada

I have been aching to get back to MTL since leaving it in 2015 after my internship there ended. The city is so lively and there’s so much to do, especially in summer, I could spend hours at the Jean Talon market buying fresh produce to cook up for a lovely meal. 

I could go on and on about every place I want to visit, but this list seems pretty attainable to do within a year. I’m hoping to get to all of them, but we’ll see what’s in store. Where do you most want to visit in 2021?
